UnitedHealthcare Announces Transition to Digital Claim Letters for New Jersey Medicaid Providers

As of February 2, 2024, UnitedHealthcare is implementing a significant update for healthcare professionals and facilities associated with UnitedHealthcare Community Plans (Medicaid) in New Jersey. The change involves the discontinuation of mailed claim letters for most medical network healthcare professionals and facilities.
While a significant portion of claim letters has already shifted to digital formats, these can now be accessed in the Document Library Claim Letters folder. This includes letters requesting additional information necessary for processing claims. Providers will have constant access to these documents, available 24/7 through the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal or an Application Programming Interface (API).
Key Points of the Update:
Starting February 2, 2024, claim letters will primarily be accessible in the Document Library Claim Letters folder through the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal or API.
Behavioral health professionals and facilities, along with home and community-based services, will continue to receive claim letters via mail.
Providers using external vendors, such as revenue cycle management companies or lockbox services, are advised to ensure these entities are informed of these changes and are capable of following the digital workflow.
How to Access Claim Letters:
Via the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal:
Visit UHCprovider.com and sign in using your One Healthcare ID and password.
If you don't have a One Healthcare ID, you can initiate the process at UHCprovider.com/access.
Access the Document Library by selecting Documents & Reporting > Document Library, then navigate to the Claim Letters folder.
Important Guidelines:
Familiarize yourself with the Claim Letters folder, which encompasses various document types, including claim responses and requests for additional information.
Provider remittance advice details are available in the Payment Documents folder.
Notifications: Upon the availability of new letters in the Document Library, an email notification will be dispatched to the Primary Access Administrator's registered email address. Now, they also can authorize others to modify email notification preferences in the Document Delivery Settings section of the portal.
Regular Checks for Updates: It is recommended to routinely review the Document Library for new letters and any subsequent actions required.
Handling Notifications for Multiple Staff: While Document Library notifications are restricted to one email address per letter type, the Primary Access Administrator can contemplate using a group email address if multiple staff members necessitate notification.
For a detailed guide on updating email notifications, refer to the Profile & Settings interactive guide available on the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal.
These changes signify UnitedHealthcare's commitment to a more streamlined and accessible digital framework, ensuring efficient communication and documentation handling. By embracing these updates, providers can seamlessly access claim-related information and foster a more efficient workflow.
